In October 2026, Poznań will once again welcome the world’s most outstanding young violinists. The artists will showcase their talent and compete for the highest honours in one of the oldest and most prestigious violin competitions in the world, held under the patronage of Henryk Wieniawski since 1935.

In-person ticket sales at the Adam Mickiewcz University Auditorium (Aula UAM) box office are scheduled to open on October 1, 2026. We strongly encourage purchasing online in advance, as ticket availability changes rapidly.
Tickets for Stage 4 auditions and the 2nd Prizewinners' Concert are already sold out. The final batch of tickets for the Gala and Prizewinners' Concert will be released soon.

Schedule & Program of the 17th Wieniawski Competition
October 8: Opening Concert
The 17th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition will be inaugurated by a concert of the Poznań Philharmonic under the baton of maestro Łukasz Borowicz, featuring the outstanding South Korean cellist Tae-Yeon Kim – winner of the 2nd Prize and Audience Prize of the Queen Elisabeth Competition (2026), among other accolades. The soloist, performing on an exceptional 1740 Omobono Stradivarius instrument, will play C. Saint-Saëns's Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor. The evening's program will also include A. Szałowski's Overture for Symphony Orchestra and G. Bacewicz's Symphony No. 3.
October 9–12: Stage 1
Participants will perform compositions by Henryk Wieniawski: one Caprice (from Op. 10 or Op. 18), one selected work or group of works by the Competition’s patron (including Polonaise de concert in D major, Op. 4; Scherzo-Tarantella, Op. 16; Fantasia on Themes from Gounod’s Faust, Op. 20; Polonaise in A major, Op. 21), and an additional piece or pieces of their choice, composed between the Baroque and contemporary periods, for solo violin or violin with piano.
October 13–15: Stage 2
In this stage, participants will perform violin sonatas with piano (including works by Bartók, Franck, Szymanowski, Penderecki, Ravel, Bacewicz, Lutosławski, Sarasate, Saint-Saëns, Ysaÿe), as well as solo works or compositions for violin and piano from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th-century repertoire.
October 16: Day off
October 17–18: Stage 3
Each participant will perform with the Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra Amadeus, conducted by Anna Duczmal-Mróz, one work chosen from the following: M.P. Górecki – Concerto-Notturno Op. 13; A. Panufnik – Violin Concerto; P. Vasks – Vox Amoris: Fantasy for Violin and String Orchestra, and M. Weinberg – Concertino, Op. 42.
October 19: Day off
October 20–21: Stage 4 | Semi-final
Performing with the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra under Łukasz Borowicz, finalists will present one of the following violin concertos: J. Brahms – Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77; L. van Beethoven – Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61; A. Dvořák – Violin Concerto in A minor, Op. 53; M. Karłowicz – Violin Concerto in A major, Op. 8; F. Mendelssohn – Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, and J. Sibelius – Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47.
October 22: Stage 4 | Final
The remaining part of the final stage comprises Henryk Wieniawski’s violin concertos: No. 1 in F-sharp minor, Op. 14 and/or No. 2 in D minor, Op. 22.
October 23: Gala and Prize-Winner Concert
October 24: Prize-Winner Concert no. 2
October 25: Prize-Winner Concert no. 3 (Warsaw)
Competition Venue
Except for Prize-Winner Concert no. 3, all competition auditions and concerts will be held at the A. Mickiewicz University Auditorium in Poznań (1, Wieniawskiego Street).
