Henry Temianka in 1935.

Born in Scotland, son of Polish emigrants, Henry Temianka (1906-1992) led a very long and eventful artistic life. To earn money for his studies with Bronisław Huberman, he would turn the score for Huberman's pianist at concerts. He was a café and circus violinist, concertmaster with George Szell's and Fritz Reiner's orchestras, founder and conductor of his own orchestra in California. Like many laureates of the 1935 competition, he was also Carl Flesch's student.
