Bronisław Gimpel

Bronisław Gimpel (1911-1979) was a splendid virtuoso and chamber musician, concertmaster, conductor and educator. One of his collaborators was Władysław Szpilman, who also accompanied him at the Wieniawski Competition. He achieved very much on stage the world over - his musical activity was immense. He played a Guarneri violin that once belonged to Paganini, and found his defeat at the Warsaw competition the only disappointment of his artistic life. His fame never matched his artistic mastery.
