Bartosz Bryła
Bartosz Bryła began his violin education at the age of six with Prof. Adam Nowak, first at the School of Music, and later at the State Secondary School of Music in Wrocław, where he received his diploma in 1979. He went on to study in Prof. Wolfgang Marschner’s class at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, and in Prof. Jadwiga Kaliszewska’s class at the Academy of Music in Poznań, which he completed with honours in 1983. He has also taken master classes in music interpretation with Henryk Szeryng, Nathan Milstein and Yehudi Menuhin.
Prize-winner of National Young Violin Player Competition in Lublin, International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poznań, L. Spohr International Violin Competition in Freiburg (Germany), and International Chamber Music Competition in Colmar (France), since 1986, has been a member of “Chopin Trio”, with which he won Special Prize for the Best Performance of W. A. Mozart’s Composition at the Colmar Competition in 1986. He has performed extensively both as soloist and chamber musician, and given numerous concerts throughout Europe, in Cuba, China, Japan, USA, Canada, Mexico, as well as the United Arab Emirates.
Bartosz Bryła has made recordings for various Polish and international record labels, incl. Polskie Nagrania, Wifon, Poljazz-Classik, Emscherland Classik (Germany), Selene (world premiere recording of Violin Sonata by Józef Wieniawski made with pianist Andrzej Tatarski), or EMG Victor of Japan (part in recording Fryderyk Chopin’s Complete Works). He has also made numerous recordings for the Polish Radio, incl. the world premiere recording of Karol Lipiński’s First Violin Concerto in F sharp minor with the Polish Radio and Television Orchestra in Warsaw conducted by J. Salwarowski.
Besides concert engagements, he is also active in the field of teaching: he is professor in the class of violin and head of Stringed Instrument Dept. at the Academy of Music in Poznań. Since 1997, he has also chaired the class of violin at the Academy of Music in Wrocław. In 2006, one of his students, Agata Szymczewska, was awarded First Prize at the 13th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poznań. He has taught at master classes held at different centres in Poland and abroad, incl. University of Guanajuato (Mexico), Beijing Conservatory (China), Hunter College of the City University of New York, Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (USA), Summer Music Academy in Żagań, as well as at musical interpretation master courses in Zell an der Pram (Austria) and Bilbao (Spain).
Bartosz Bryła has sat on the jury of national and international violin, chamber music and violin-making competitions in Lublin, Gdańsk, Warsaw, Poznań, Wrocław, Zell an der Pram (Austria), Brescia (Italy), and Hinterzarten (Germany), to name just a few.
Between 2007 and 2017 he was a Chairman of Henryk Wieniawski Musical Society of Poznań. Since June 2017 he is a member of the board.
