David Oistrakh

One of the greatest legends and personalities in the history of the violin, by many considered the greatest 20th century violinist, David Oistrakh did not win the 1st International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition! This gives an idea of the event's artistic heights. However, what he did not manage to achieve in Warsaw, he splendidly accomplished two years later at the competition (then bearing the name of Eugene Ysaÿe's, today - Queen Elizabeth's) in Brussels.

Born in Odessa, Russia, in 1908 (d.1974) he was not called King David without a reason.
