Iwao Furusawa



The only Japanese laureate violinist from outside Professor Unno's 'stable' was Iwao Furusawa (b. 1959), then student of Toho University in Tokyo in Professor Toshiya Eto's class. Later, Furusawa mastered his skills at Curtis Institute in Philadelphia and the Mozarteum in Salzburg with such masters as Nathan Milstein, Sandor Vegh or Ivry Gitlis. Since 1988 he has been soloist and concertmaster with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. One of his records, 'Un Soirée de Violin, sold 150 000 copies!
