Zenon Brzewski



Zenon Brzewski was born in Ulanów in 1923. He graduated in the class of violin under Professor Irena Dubiska from the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw in 1950. In 1960-1963, he took postgraduate studies under Professor Wolfgang Schneiderhan in Lucerne, and under Professor Andre Gertler in Brussels. He was appointed Associate Professor at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw in 1965 and its Prorector in the years 1972-1975. He was Professor at the Academy of Music in Warsaw since 1983.

Zenon Brzewski set on the juries of all-Poland and international music competitions, for instance the Henryk Wieniawski Competition in Poznań (in 1972, 1977, 1986 and 1991), the Fritz Kreisler Competition in Vienna, the Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig, the Yehudi Menuhin Competition in Folkestone (England), the Nicolo Paganini Competition in Genoa, the Ludwig Spohr Competition in Freiburg. He presided the jury of the Karol Lipiński and Henryk Wieniawski International Competition of Young Violinists in Lublin.

He was Vice-President of the General Board of the Polish Musicians' Association in 1974-1981, chairman of the Main Board of the Association's Section of Educators.

Professor Brzewski was initiator and moving spirit of the Musical Master Classes in Łańcut in the years 1975-1992. He died in 1993.
